Wall-mounted TVs are standard in modern interiors. Statistics show that when choosing a mount, 90% of users prefer wall mounting. This option allows you to place the screen at a comfortable height, free up space, and protect the equipment from accidental impacts. However, choosing the right wall mount for your TV is not as easy as it seems. In this article, we will look at the key criteria you need to know in order to buy the perfect option for your TV.
How to choose a TV mount based on the mounting method?
TV mounts vary in terms of mobility and functionality:
- Fixed (rigid) mounts. The simplest and most affordable option. The TV is installed as close to the wall as possible — the distance is usually 20-30 mm. The optimal choice for rooms where the TV is located directly opposite the viewing area and there is no need to change the viewing angle.
- Tilting mounts. Allow you to adjust the vertical tilt angle of the screen in the range from -2° to -15°. These types of TV mounts are ideal for small rooms with a fixed viewing point.
- Swivel mounts. Allow the panel to rotate horizontally from left to right. The rotation angle varies from 90° to 180° depending on the model. They are indispensable in studios or kitchen-living rooms where the TV needs to be turned to different functional areas.
- Tilt-and-swivel (universal) brackets. They combine all adjustment options: vertical tilt, horizontal swivel, and sometimes rotation around the vertical axis. Maximum functionality for rooms with multiple viewing areas.
Each type has its own advantages, so the choice of bracket depends on the size of the TV, the characteristics of the space, and how often you plan to change the position of the screen.

Technical parameters for selecting a TV mount
Once you have determined the type of design, you need to consider the compatibility of the mount with your TV model. There are several characteristics that you must take into account when buying a TV mount. The following points will help you choose the right one.
VESA standard
To choose the right TV mount, find the VESA information in the technical documentation for your panel or measure the distance between the holes yourself.
The most common standards are:
- 75×75, 100×100 mm — for TVs with a diagonal of up to 32 inches;
- 200×200, 300×300 mm — for models 32-55 inches;
- 400×400, 600×400 mm — for large panels from 55 inches.
Some manufacturers produce universal mounts with adjustable brackets that fit several VESA standards at once.
Permissible load of the bracket
Each mount is designed for a specific maximum weight. The basic rule is to choose a bracket for a TV with a safety margin of at least 30% of the actual weight. Lightweight models weighing up to 10 kg can be mounted on inexpensive structures. Heavier models require reinforced mounts with thick metal and reliable components.
Screen diagonal
- For diagonals up to 43″, compact TV mounts with a small projection are suitable.
- Panels 50-65″ require wider mounting brackets and reinforced arms, especially for swivel models.
- TVs from 70″ weigh 25-40 kg, so they need professional mounts with a load capacity of 50 kg.
Distance from the wall and angle of adjustment
Measure the depth of the niche or the distance to the nearest furniture. For installation behind the TV, leave at least 50 mm for air circulation and access to connectors.
If the TV will be in the corner of the room, choose swivel TV mounts with an angle of at least 120°. For viewing from multiple angles, a range of 180° is optimal. The tilt is important for high placement: for a height of 170-200 cm, -5°/-8° is sufficient, for 200+ cm, -10°/-15° is required.
Now you know how to choose a TV mount that will meet all the technical requirements of your model. Priorities when choosing: first, VESA and weight compatibility, then the type of design for your viewing conditions, and only then — additional features and design.
